Pakistan President Election 2013 Media Opinion

Ruling party candidate Mamnoon Hussain was elected as the 12th President of Pakistan on Tuesday, replacing Asif Ali Zardari whose five-year term expires in September.
Chief Election Commissioner Fakhruddin G Ebrahim said Hussain received a total of 432 votes from the two houses of Parliament and the four provincial assemblies.
Hussain, a 73-year-old textile businessman from Karachi, will be sworn in on Sept 9 at the presidency due to be vacated by incumbent Asif Ali Zardari.

صدارتی الیکشن کے نتائج کا اعلان کرتے ہوئے چیف الیکشن کمشنر جسٹس (ر) جسٹس فخر الدین جی ابراہیم نے بتایا کہ ممنون حسین نے 432 الیکٹورل ووٹ حاصل کیے ہیں جبکہ ان کے مدِمقابل تحریکِ انصاف کے جسٹس (ر) وجیہہ الدین نے 77 ووٹ حاصل کر سکے۔

تجزیہ نگاروں کا کہنا ہے کہ مسلم لیگ نواز اس سے اردو بولنے والی کمیونٹی اور تاجروں کو یہ پیغام دینا چاہتی ہے کہ انھوں نے ان کے نمائندے کا انتخاب کیا ہے۔

میاں نواز شریف کے لیے ممنون حسین بھی رفیق تارڑ کی طرح بے ضرر اور فرماں بردار صدر ثابت ہوں گے۔

آخر میں جب پردہ اٹھایا گیا تو سب یہ دیکھ کر دنگ رہ گئے کہ سامنے ایک ایسی شخصیت کھڑی تھی جو سیاست میں اجنبی محسوس ہوئی، دونوں پہلوؤں سے نام کے حوالے سے بھی اور کام کے حوالے سے بھی۔ بہت کم نے انہیں اس سے پہلے سنا اور بہت کم نے انہیں اس سے پہلے دیکھا۔ ہر چند وہ مسلم لیگ نواز سے ربع صدی سے وابستہ ہیں اور سندھ کی گورنری پر فائز رہے لیکن یہ عرصہ اس قدر مختصر تھا کہ ان کی گورنری ’’جنگل میں مور ناچا‘‘ کی ذیل میں آتی ہے، یہ بھی معلوم ہوا کہ جنابِ ممنون حسین نے مشکل دنوں میں نواز خاندان کا بہت ثابت قدمی سے ساتھ دیا۔

یہ نام بہتوں کے لیے اجنبی ہے تو اس کی وجہ غالباً ان کی کاروباری مصروفیات و محویات رہی ہوں اور یہ بھی کہ وہ کچھ زیادہ سیاسی ذہن کے مالک نہ ہوں، بہت ممکن ہے کہ ان کی یہ مؤخر الذکر صفت انہیں صدارت کے عہدۂ جلیل تک لانے میں زیادہ ممد و معاون رہی ہو، ان کی صورت دیکھ کر ان کی طبیعت کی ’’آمنا و صدقنا‘‘ کیفیت بھی خاصی نمایاں ہے، یقیناً وہ زیادہ بحث و تمحیص اور مین میخ نکالنے کے عادی نہیں ہوں گے۔ ان کے عہدِ صدارت میں مسلم لیگ نواز بالیقین مامون و پرسکون ہے گی۔

Mamnoon Hussain
Former Sindh governor and an alumnus of the Institute of Business Administration, from where he graduated in 1965, Hussain is an old loyalist of Nawaz Sharif and remained with the PML-N during the regime of former military ruler Pervez Musharraf. He served as the governor of Sindh from June to October 1999 and lost the post after the then army chief Gen Pervez Musharraf toppled the PML-N government in a military coup in Oct 1999.
Hussain belongs to Sindh and lives in Karachi, where he owns a textile business. He  was born in Uttar Pradesh, India, in 1940. In 1993, he inched closer to the party leadership when Nawaz contested his own removal from the premier’s office by then president Ghulam Ishaq Khan.
According to analysts, picking Hussain as its presidential candidate would help the party counter the PPP’s claims that the PML-N was accommodating only Punjab-based politicians at offices in the centre. He contested the 2002 elections from NA-250 (Karachi) on PML-N ticket but had no luck. He is also a former president of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI).
