LONDON: Britain launched fighter jets on Friday to escort a Pakistan International Airlines plane carrying 297 passengers from Lahore after it was diverted from Manchester.
Flight PK709 from the city of Lahore in Pakistan was due to land at Manchester Airport in north west England at 1230 GMT.
The plane was reported to have been 10 minutes away from Manchester Aiport when it was diverted to Stansted airport.
A traveler on the plane had allegedly hinted at the presence of an explosive, after which the pilot notified the control room.
“The two middle-aged passengers who previously had the altercation were simply asked to come with the commandoes who had boarded the aircraft. They were then handcuffed and taken away,” Yaqoob, one of the pessengers told.
